For most of us, Mondays are probably our least favorite day of the week. After a weekend of relaxing and taking a rest from work, and just when you’re almost getting used to a slower pace, the new workweek slaps you right in the face again. Some people even feel some anxiety when they sense the new week is approaching.
But it does not have to be like this. You should feel good about getting out of bed every day, and not just on weekends. There are some measures you can take to make you, if not love Mondays, at least take a liking to them.
1. Make the Most Out of Fridays
When Friday comes, there is a tendency for some of us to start slacking off because we can just smell the weekend and that well-deserved rest arriving. What this leads to is that we leave a lot of unfinished issues, which we’ll still have to deal with on Monday. But all these leftover tasks from the previous week makes us dread Mondays even more.
The solution is to do some of that work and start planning Monday the week before. Since you still have to be at work on Friday, there’s no use beginning to think about the weekend until it actually comes.
So try to finish all pending issues you can and, before you leave, make a quick plan on how to tackle the new week. This will make it easier to pick up the pace on Monday. You can even use a task manager app like BubblesPlanner for this. It allows you to visually organize the tasks as you see fit, and even sort priorities so that you’ll know the first thing you should work on as soon as you sit on your desk on Monday.
2. Give Yourself Something to Look Forward To
Mondays don’t have to be seen just as the first workday of the week. You can plan something you like so that you’re looking forward to it as you go to bed the night before. It could be a great breakfast or a pleasurable morning activity like a run around the park.
Or, if you prefer, you can do something special after work, like having your favorite meal for dinner, or maybe a completely different activity such as a yoga class or playing some tennis. Giving yourself these treats will make you enjoy Mondays a lot more. Being happier also means you’ll be more productive at work!
